Let's Go Offense!: A Glance at the Top OPOY Choices in the NFL

Davante Adams, Wide Receiver, Green Bay Packers

Adams leads the NFL in receiving yards per game, as well as receptions per game, and touchdown receptions. He racked up an impressive 1,374 yards and 18 touchdowns, despite missing two out of the 16 regular-season games. Adams solidified his position as the top receiver of the league this season, beating out other stars like Stefon Diggs, DeAndre Hopkins, and Tyreek Hill with his stunning statistics. Adams and his quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, were one of the top QB-WR duos of the league and carried the team to the first seed in the NFC, and make the team look like a promising Superbowl candidate.

Derrick Henry, Running Back, Tennessee Titans

Derrick Henry dominated opposing defenses in 2020. Only the eighth player in NFL history to rush for 2000+ yards in a season, Henry cruised through the competition, averaging 15 yards per game more than the second-place running back, Dalvin Cook. This season, the Titans relied on Henry’s immense strength and nimble speed, handing him the ball 23.6 times per game, and cashing in on his 17 rushing touchdowns. Henry’s mighty season came to an end when the Baltimore Ravens’ defense shut him down, allowing just 40 yards to the Heisman-winning back (College Football’s MVP award).

Patrick Mahomes, Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs

With Aaron Rodgers the likely MVP of the NFL this year, Mahomes could be a likely candidate for OPOY. He was second in the league in passing yards, first in yards per game, and third in passing touchdowns. He led a formidable Chiefs offense, with weapons Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins. Mahomes—the 2018 regular season MVP and 2019 Super Bowl MVP—led his team to an NFL-best 14-1 record, with his backup losing an insignificant game to the Chargers in Week 17. Mahomes hopes to lead the Chiefs to back to back titles this season.

Alvin Kamara, Running Back, New Orleans Saints

Kamara had one of the most impressive single-game performances of all time to go with his already stellar season. This dual-threat back rushed for 932 yards this season, significantly fewer than other top backs, but pulled in another 756 receiving yards, the most of any RB by almost 200 yards. On Christmas day, Kamara rushed for 155 yards and carried in six touchdowns, becoming the first player since 1965 to have six non-passing TDs in a game. This season, his 21 touchdowns were the most of any non-QB, which made him a vital part of the Saints’ offense this season.
